The Balvenie - Dun Eideann 15 years old - Tasting Notes

Nose
Citrus, wine gum, pomolo, fresh, sweet, vanilla, sweet fruit notes, soft honey, coriander, mint. Gets more sweet fruity with some warmth on the glass, and with some time the custard, vanilla, and raisin notes come forward. Almost becoming a bit nutty.

It has a very delicate balance I noticed. I saved a bit in my glass for later comparison, and when I came back to it the nose had become a bit flat and
some sawdust had appeared.

Palate
Soft, fruit, vanilla, caramel, sweet, fruit, soft stone fruits, fudge. Custard, citrus, cream, hint of chocolate in the back.

Finish
Medium length finish with some soft vanilla and custard finish. Put some citrus and cream in the mix, and you get a very sweet and fresh mouthfeel with this dram. It does needs some time to reveal it self , but fades out also a bit too fast...

Score
7 out of 10. A Dun Eideann bottling of Balvenie, this is distilled on 19-12-1974 and was bottled in July 1990. This 15 year old expression is bottled at 43%, and was matured in casks #18103 - 18130. This was bottle 2890 of 3000 we had the change to try from.

Next in the line up was a Signatory bottling of the same casks and the same age. But at higher strength. That one was more liked by every one, due to this Dun Eideann bottling feeling was a bit "wattery" almost. Notes were not strong, and the Signatory bottling was more present and full. It was great to have the chance to taste these next to each other, and see what differences can be.
