Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1995/2011 - Tasting Notes

Nose
Coffee bitter, leather and tobacco at first on the nose. Then the baking spices, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, and dried fruits pop up. Dark chocolate, full array of dark summer fruits, star anise, some stinging nettle, spearmint, pink grapefruit and green tea. This nose is strong, sweet, rich, and fresh.

Palate
Smooth, creamy, dark summer fruits, dried fruits, sweet, minty fresh, oranges, red apples, pomegranate, cinnamon, dark heather honey, mocca, chocolate, vanilla, raisin, leather, tobacco, and light peat dryness. Rich and sweet.

Finish
Long finish, dark chocolate, raisin, vanilla sweet with a hint of ginger. With a bit of the earthy peaty mouth feel left in the end.

Score
This lovely Lagavulin Distillers Edition, distilled in 1995, is bottled at 43% in 2011, and with a Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish. This one scores for me an 8 out of 10, and has a rich and balanced palate and nose. Lovely.
