Highland Park - Dark Origins

This latest addition of HIghland Park to the core expressions uses twice as many first fill sherry casks than in the classic Highland Park 12 year old. Tasted it next to each other and cant be compared with each other.

Nose
Sweet, soft smoke, toffee, clover honey, sweet flowernote, creamy, vanilla, red berries, red summer fruits, cherries, light heather note and some moorish note. Different fruits underneath it all in the back.

Palate
Light peppery, creamy, chocolate mouse, red pepper balls, soft honey, fruits, dark summer fruit jam, some woody herbal notes and raisins.

Finish
Medium to long finish with sweet honey, raspberry, blackcurrent and vanilla notes. A light sulphur note maybe in the very end?

Score
Tasted this at two festivals and got some time to make a couple of notes at the second festival. Was not in the best environment to get a fully written out notes, but got a good look at it, and found it nicely balanced between the sweet and the earthy almost coastal notes. It was suprising to me, and if you put this one in front of me blind, I think I would not guess Highland Park. Lovely and a smooth, rich and not too overpowering in the smoky and earthy note. Giving it a very good 7,5 out of 10, maybe 8 even.
