Douglas Laing - Old Particular - North British Grain 21yo

Douglas Laing released some new single grain expressions in the Old Particular range. Lucky to receive some samples of them to enjoy I first dived into the North British expression that is 21 years old and bottled at 50,9%. From a refill hogshead DL10797 producing 294 bottles.

Each of the bottlings in these new additions is from one cask and without colouring or chill filtration, to keep it in line with the Douglas Laing philosophy "As Natural As It Gets". They believe this allows the naturally present oils, fats and enzymes in the spirit to make their own special contribution to its nose, mouth feel, palate and finish.

There is lovely soft sweetness coming from this nose with deep rich vanilla and fruit notes. It has a velvet feel to it with some exotic fruit and flowers. Fresh and sweet through the combination of the hint of aniseed and light mint with the honey and fruit notes. On the palate these notes come back lovely and mix with some spices and a dry note of some nuts. Bit of a liquerish feel coming through the grain notes and making it a fresh and enjoyable dram with a medium length finish. Scoring a 7 out of 10.
