Craigellachie 17 yo

In the recent #CraigellachieTT Twitter Tasting by The Whisky Wire was included the 17 year old expression. Bottled at 46% and matured in hogsheads, finished in new hogsheads and butts.

The first impression the nose gives are fresh citrus notes of pomolo, mandarin and a splash of lime. Behind that you can sense is a sweet layer hidden with notes of good cakes and fruits.

On the palate I find a thick, almost meaty, feeling that on one side reminds me of a very dark chocolate cake with lots of cream filling, but on the other side lets me drift off to a good roast with thick gravy and lots of mushrooms. Fudge, red apples, banana, cherries, blackcurrant, red currant, baking spices, cloves, all spice, red pepper and some soft ginger notes. Lovely balance between the nose and palate with a good length finish. This dram keeps pulling me from one side to the other notes wise. It is full of different lush notes. Great dram. Scoring it an 8 out of 10.
