Glen Moray - 16

At the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival they give out Whisky Awards after a blind tasting is first done by a small panel and then the shortlisted whiskies in three different categories are judged blind by the visitors of the festival.

The winning expressions were served in the #Dram16Winners Twitter Tasting on the 15th of June. We all were presented by the following drams; Glen Grant 10Glenfiddich 12Glen Moray 16Glenfiddich 18, Cragganmore 25 and the Glenfiddich 21.

In the category 13 - 20 year old whisky comes this Glen Moray 16 year old bottled at 40%. The nose is soft but also makes me wonder if my nose if off a bit? Sweet and creamy fruit at first and then earthy, dusty notes of clay and hay. Little bit of vanilla and mulled fruits.

The palate fades quickly sadly but shows some more fruity sweet notes. Creamy honey, red apple, dried banana, prunes, baking spices, vanilla, caramel and maple syrup. Finish is a bit short and gives me some nutmeg and ginger bread. Scoring it an 7 out of 10.
