Old Pulteney - 35

When visiting the Pulteney distillery recently a chance was given to have a taste of their 35 year old whisky bottled at 42,5% that has been matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks.

On the nose I find notes of gooseberry, vanilla, raisin, dandelions, apple blossom, geranium, cotton candy, blackcurrant jam, tobacco leaf, soft wood spices, clove, tangerine, oranges, crumbly red apple, pear, ginger, soft malt and caramel syrup

The palate is much sweeter and fruitier then the nose first shows me. It has loads of dried fruits and that combined with fruits from the nose and adding also mango, peach, lime, pomegranate, red berries, strawberry, cranberries and banana to the mix it becomes very sweet.

This sweetness is followed by a soft leathery feeling mixed with tobacco leaf and spices. There are some wood notes on the medium length finish that has a bit of tannin's in it and the mouth feel becomes candy sweet at the end with chocolate bitters, caramel sweetness, ginger and some briny note almost. A lovely mix but not blowing my mind, very sweet in total to be honest. Scoring it an 7,5/10. Thanks for sharing the sample Old Pulteney!
