Glen Grant - 10

At the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival they give out Whisky Awards after a blind tasting is first done by a small panel and then the shortlisted whiskies in three different categories are judged blind by the visitors of the festival.

The winning expressions were served in the #Dram16Winners Twitter Tasting on the 15th of June. We all were presented by the following drams; Glen Grant 10Glenfiddich 12Glen Moray 16Glenfiddich 18, Cragganmore 25 and the Glenfiddich 21.

Lets start with the Glen Grant that is bottled at 40%. A nose of fresh citrus, light hay, some green apples, vanilla and some wood/malt coming through also. A sweet and fresh palate with the vanilla becoming more present then it was on the nose at first. Some light bitterness from nuts with the flavours of lemon, pink grapefruit, banana peel, oranges and apples.

A soft and medium length finish that shows mostly the vanilla sweetness. It is a fresh and sweet dram but not that much depth to be found in it for now sadly. Scoring me an 7 out of 10. Lets move to the 12 year old expression in this line up and see what that does for me...
